School Project Peru

Maria and Juancito live with their parents on a small farm at around 3,500 metres above sea level. The barren, dry highlands may look beautiful to tourists, but they don’t offer much for a living. Although Peru is one of the most developed countries in Latin America, more than 13% of Peruvian children under the age of 5 suffer from malnutrition, often caused by polluted water, lack of hygiene and insufficient nutrition. Malnutrition leads to an impairment of the children’s physical and mental development.

With the school project “My Beautiful School”, Suyana empowers school children like Maria and Juancito, their schools, teachers and parents to realise improvements. The aim is to enhance the quality of education, hygiene and nutrition.

In the course of this week, Maria and Juancito tell us how they have been doing with the school project. More about the project here.
