First Suyana project in Uganda

Suyana is launching its first partner project in Uganda! Together with our local partner organization, Teso Initiative for Peace, we are empowering 625 farming households in the Soroti District of northeastern Uganda. This region has been experiencing increasing food insecurity in recent years largely due to a lack of modern agricultural practices coupled with climate change impacts that have rendered rainfall patterns unpredictable. In addition, schools in Uganda were closed for two years due to strict lockdown measures imposed amid the Covid-19 pandemic and many children remain out of school.

Within the next three years Suyana aims to improve the food, health, and income security of Soroti communities through various initiatives that include agricultural and poultry-farming workshops, nutrition and hygiene education, as well as the formation of local cooperatives and savings groups.

Following Suyana’s integrated approach, we collaborate with families, local authorities, and schools to empower communities to enact holistic, long-lasting change.
